Created by Reema Kagti and Zoya Akhtar (who has co-written it with Ritesh Shah), the plot does not waste time revealing the killer’s identity. Shot in various parts of Rajasthan, Tanay Satam’s cinematography beautifully captures the rustic villages, bringing realism to the drama. This crime drama scores big with its fast-paced developments, revelations, and strong performances. Sonakshi Sinha's performance as the titular character is a sure winner in her OTT debut, thanks to her restrained acting. Dahaad apart is its crisp writing and roaring performances, which make it an engaging watch.

The Amazon Prime Video series revolves around the committed cop, her colleagues and a deceptively taciturn killer. A series of women are found dead in public toilets in towns and villages across the state in what appear to be cases of suicide. With the steady support of her boss, SHO Devi Lal Singh (Gulshan Devaiah), and with grudging and sporadic help from SI Kailash Parghi (Sohum Shah). A refreshingly clear-eyed, multi-layered thriller that pushes genre boundaries, Dahaad soars without having to roar in predictable ways.

It is not the needless rowdiness that takes precedence here as Bhaati goes about her work as an inspector in a room full of male police officers. As one clue leads to another, Bhaati takes the lead into the investigation, the chase builds to hunt down the serial killer at loose. In a parallel track, we follow Vijay Varma's Anand Swarnakar, a meek and reserved man who works as a Hindi professor at a nearby college. Dahaad is controlled and superbly orchestrated, never giving way to the sensational tone of serial killer crusades and dramatic monologues with wide-eyed close-ups. It resembles a cul de sac at the end of a long, winding road towards a mountain top.

Anjali Bhaati (played by Sonakshi Sinha) is a top performer in her taekwondo class. She is sassy, unapologetic and rides a bullet to work. Dahaad also presents a slice of truth that might be a little hard to digest. Being a women cop in a police station full of men ain’t no easy task, leave alone standing out. Bhaati has to face prejudice on a daily basis. Created by Reema Kagti-Zoya Akhtar and directed by Reema Kagti-Ruchika Oberoi, Dahaad is a more than decent take on modern day cop thrillers. All in all, Dahaad is a treat to all those who are a fan of cop thrillers and have been complaining of not watching a good one of late. The show will surely leave you hooked and before you know it, you’ll be onto the fifth episode!
